Plant Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory performs basic and applied R&D activities with its high throughput technologies, equipment and infrastructure in accordance with national priorities. The laboratory conducts studies on various fields like preventing agricultural losses, obtaining plants resistant/tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses and defining national genetic resources on the basis of genes and proteins, with the use of genetic engineering and biotechnology methods. It conducts various R&D projects in cooperation with universities, public research institutions and private sector entities. In this context, it has realized many projects including the ones on the identification of molecular markers for selecting the plant genotypes resistant/tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses in plant breeding, the identification of gene expressions under varying abiotic stress conditions with transcriptomic and proteomic approaches, the development of pest-resistant plant species, the phytoremediation studies against heavy metal stress in plants and algae, and the establishment of plant tissue culture systems for various plants. It also offers analysis and consulting services in response to the needs of public and private sector organizations.
